Don't Miss Our

"New World of Testing"

Digital Series

The power of novel coronavirus to transform the nature of commerce and disrupt settled business operations is evident everywhere, including the global assessment community. The Association of Test Publishers' (ATP) and the 2020 Global Conference Committee introduce as a lead up to the Virtual Global Conference (September 14 - 18, 2020), the "New World of Testing (NWT)" digital series. This series showcases the assessment community ingenuity to address unprecedented challenges as well as a myriad of concerns that saddles new, mostly, digital solutions.

These challenges and concerns touch all facets of the assessment enterprise from the science of measurement to data protection and privacy to fairness and equity. The NWT provides a forum for invited experts to share their knowledge and experience with the worldwide assessment community on these and related topics. During the summer months look for announcements about the NWT "Lunch and Learn" digital events. Upon registration, the summer "Lunch and Learn" events are available free to the staff of member and non-member organizations.

Privacy and the Legal Landscape for Remote Proctoring
Thusday, July 9, 2020 from 4:00 - 5:00 UTC
(12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT; 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM PDT)

Online administration of high stakes exams supported by remote proctoring services has grown steadily in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic has markedly accelerated that trend as a consequence of temporary test center closures. However, the sudden rapid increase in online proctored exams with video monitoring has also prompted a backlash among some examinees. Complaints of privacy invasion and alleged violations of privacy laws are being raised, leading to a legal challenge of remote proctoring in one case thus far involving the University of Amsterdam.

This webinar will examine circumstances of the legal challenge, factors that influenced the outcome, and wider implications of the court ruling for video use in remote proctoring of online exam administrations. Consideration will also be given to ways of addressing test taker concerns with remote proctoring, exam sponsor concerns with test security and accessibility, and resources to guide compliance with relevant privacy laws. The moderated discussion format features the CEO of Proctorio, whose software was the subject of the Amsterdam court case, and members of the International Privacy Subcommittee of the ATP Security Committee.

Join us as we delve into the societal and legal developments that can impact online exam proctoring.
